Opportunity: Columbia University Social Science Workshop Call for Papers

Call for Papers

from Ph.D. Students in the Social Sciences for a one-day workshop

“Studying Russia and the Postcommunist World”
December 12, 2019

Columbia University

Thanks in large part to generous support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Harriman Institute of Columbia University and the Jordan Center of New York University are hosting a graduate student workshop for Ph.D. students in the social sciences studying Russia or
the postcommunist world.

This workshop will allow students at all stages of their Ph.D. careers to receive feedback on their research and to learn more about the work of their peers. We encourage graduate students to submit research proposals, dissertation proposals, dissertation chapters, or stand-alone articles.
Co-authored work is encouraged. All formats of work are acceptable. The goal of the workshop is to provide advice on research at all stages of development.
We also encourage all Ph.D. students interested in the region to attend the workshop even if they are not presenting. We hope that the workshop will help build stronger ties among graduate students working on the region.

Candidates should submit a 1-page research abstract and a curriculum vitae to Ryan Kreider at rk2780@columbia.edu by November 12. Papers should be circulated to discussants by December 6th.

The Harriman Institute will cover lodging and travel expenses for presenters.

We look forward to receiving your proposals.
