At the time of his first WRP-funded assistantship, Kofanov was a graduate student in the UW Department of Political Science.  During the 2016-2017 academic year, he worked with Scott Gehlbach to complete a study of peasant rebellion in 1917. The paper from this project, “(Good) Land and Freedom (for Former Serfs)”  is forthcoming in Slavic Studies. He also completed a study of economies of scale in public administration, motivated in part by some interesting empirical regularities across Russian regions.

For the 2018-2019 academic year, Kofanov is furthering his research as a Graduate Research Assistant with funding through the Wisconsin Russia Project.
