Aldar Chirninov, while in residence at UW-Madison for the fall 2017 semester, was a Ph.D. Candidate at the Ural State Law University in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Aldar’s research interests lie in the intersection of constitutional law and the law of evidence. His WRP-funded research, under the guidance of Professor Kathryn Hendley, will contribute to the completion of his doctoral dissertation. The dissertation, “Evidence-Based Judicial Review of Legislation in Russia and the U.S.: A Comparative Study,” explores the idea of using legal evidence in the constitutional decision-making process. He analyzes how a fact-oriented approach to judicial review of legislation affects its outcomes.
